About Taekwondo Queensland

Taekwondo Queensland Inc is the State Sporting Organisation representing taekwondo in Queensland. The association is also representative of our National Sporting Organisation, Taekwondo Australia Limited for activities within Queensland and for the purpose of representing the interests of Queensland members of the national association.

The purpose of the association is listed fully in the constitution but, summarily, is to promote taekwondo within Queensland and operate state level activities in their own right and as an access pathway to national level taekwondo representation.

Taekwondo Queensland Inc is a not-for-profit entity incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act formed in approximately 1996 from the merger of the Australian Taekwondo Association
and the Australian Taekwondo Union and officially incorporated in July 2000.

Our mission is to enhance the development of Taekwondo in Queensland for the benefit of our members and their students.

Why be part of an affiliated school?

If you're studying a MARTIAL ART or you're thinking of starting one then there are a few questions that your instructor should be able to answer (and our affiliated schools should all have the right answers!). . .

Are you qualified to teach me and where did your qualifications come from? Many styles of Martial Arts are break away groups from their original style and any qualifications achieved through these groups are frequently not recognized once you walk out the door. Affiliated taekwondo schools are part of an international recognition system and instructor qualifications are recognised worldwide.

Do you hold Coaching Qualifications other than just a black belt?  Most instructors should have at least level 1 coaching accreditation. This means that they have completed a recognised coaching course.

Have you complied with requirements for working with children? Instructors should have a current Working with Children BLUE CARD issued by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian - ask to see it! Affiliated taekwondo schools are required to comply with this legislation and all club instructors and volunteers should have obtained their card.

Does the club have a risk management policy for child protection?  This is required by law through the Commission for Children, along with having a Blue Card, and provides the club with advice and processes for dealing with child protection issues.

Do you have any Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance? Is there participation insurance for me? Will I be insured while I am training?  Ask to see the policy. Affiliated schools obtain this insurance through our National Organisation, Taekwondo Australia and your annual registration includes participation insurance.  You should receive a membership card from Taekwondo Australia.

Do you have any First Aid qualifications?  Affiliated schools are strongly encouraged to update their first aid qualifications regularly.
