About Us

About Taekwondo Queensland

Taekwondo Australia Queensland Branch Inc is the State Sporting Organisation representing taekwondo in Queensland. The association is also representative of our National Sporting Organisation, Taekwondo Australia Inc for activities within Queensland and for the purpose of representing the interests of Queensland members of the national association.

The purpose of the association is listed fully in the constitution but, summarily, is to promote taekwondo within Queensland and operate state level activities in their own right and as an access pathway to national level taekwondo representation.

Taekwondo Australia Qld Branch Inc is a not-for-profit entity incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act. Taekwondo Queensland was formed in approximately 1996 from the merger of the Australian Taekwondo Association and the Australian Taekwondo Union. It was officially incorporated in July 2000.

Our mission is to enhance the development of Taekwondo in Queensland for the benefit of our members and their students.

Why be part of an affiliated school?

ATTENTION MARTIAL ARTISTS AND PARENTS

If you're studying a MARTIAL ART or you're thinking of starting one then there are a few questions that your instructor should be able to answer . . .

Are you qualified to teach me and where did your qualifications come from? (Many styles of Martial Arts are break away groups from their original style and any qualifications achieved through these groups are frequently not recognized once you walk out the door.) Affiliated taekwondo schools are part of an international organisation and instructor qualifications are recognised worldwide.

Do you hold Coaching Qualifications other than just a black belt? Most instructors should have at least level 1 coaching accreditation. This means that they have completed a recognised coaching course. Some new instructors may not have been able to access this program due to temporary administration issues with Taekwondo Australia.

Are you cleared to work with children? Many students now are Children so find out if the instructor has been cleared by the Commission for Children and Young People to enable them to work with Children. They should hold a current blue Suitability Card - ask to see it! Affiliated taekwondo schools are required to comply with this legislation and all club instructors and volunteers should have obtained their card.

Does the club have a risk management policy for child protection? This is required by law through the Commission for Children, along with having a Blue Card and provides the club with advice and processes for dealing with child protection issues.

Do you have any Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance? Is there participation insurance for me? Will I be insured while I am training? (ask to see the policy). Affiliated schools obtain this insurance through our National Organisation, Taekwondo Australia and your annual registration should include participation insurance.

Do you have any First Aid qualifications? I need to know that, if I hurt myself, you know what to do. Affiliated schools are encouraged to update their first aid qualifications regularly.

If your sights are set fairly high and your aim is to represent Australia in the Olympics then you need to do TAEKWONDO and you need to be training in a TAEKWONDO AUSTRALIA recognised club.
